About Model Creator

Model Creator is a service that enables you to design your unique and historically accurate soldier scale models by using an advanced web GUI. Your design is then 3D printed and delivered, or downloaded if you have your own 3D printer, so you create your desired vignette or diorama.
Our platform is loaded with different, historic units, each with its distinctive uniform, weapons, and equipment. After choosing the right unit, you will then proceed to design your figure by choosing the pose and then the load-out. Once happy with everything, you will be able to order the model, and have it delivered to the address of your choosing - or if you opt for one of our subscription options and own a suitable 3D printer, you will be able to download it, and print it yourself.
The short answer is - all! The long answer is, as always, more complicated. We have started with 20th century, mostly with World War II units, but as we expand the number of units offered, we will also expand into more and more different conflicts. After that we plan on adding other periods as well. In the end the designs that we introduce to Model Creator will largely depend on you, our fans and customers.
Our miniatures are offered in 1/16, 1/35 and 1/48 scales. Our intention was to also offer 1/72 scale, but we could not find a way to produce these at a cost that we feel would be acceptable for you as the customer.
We've tried to make 3D models in our App as historically accurate as possible, but there are some 3D printing restrictions that forced us to make some compromises. 3D printing as a technology does not allow for thin walls, nor is it happy with things such as gaps, holes or deep crevices.

3D Models & STL's

One of the 3D printing technology and material restrictions is how thin some thing can be. Weapon slings have proven to be, in vast majority of cases, impossible to incorporate in 3D models. They simply are just to thin and flimsy. There are some cases where we managed to overcome this, due to specific position of the body and other equipment, but those are exceptions. Luckily, making a weapon sling for your model is quite easy, as you can use putty or a rubber band.
With "Print My Models' subscription you receive 2 free downloads of your customized miniatures in digital STL format per month. If you do not download your customized miniatures in the actual month, they are transferred to the following month - given you still hold the subscription.
With "Print My Models' subscription you receive 2 free downloads of your customized miniatures in digital STL format per month. In addition, you have the possibility to purchase up to 5 extra digital files per month.
The major difference between commercial printing and home printing is the level of quality and detail that can be obtained in the final print. Typically home printers can print down to 200 microns while commercial printers are able to print at 35 microns, which results in a smoother, more detailed, and higher-quality end product. To help you quantify this, the human eye can only distinguish differences down to 40 microns - commercial printing surpasses this, which allows you to not see the printer layer lines.

Shipping

Our principal focus is on Europe and North America due to logistical reasons (3D print and shipping costs). You are however able to order models to almost anywhere in the World. In some cases, however, the shipping costs might be higher and your package could be subject to customs charges.
From the moment you order to ship-out it typically takes 2-3 weeks. We will, of course, try to deliver sooner when possible. Do however bear in mind that production times vary by material.
